Indicator scope
The indicator measures annual turnover generated by China's furniture manufacturing sector using the National Bureau of Statistics of China series for manufacture of furniture. The source coverage is based on above-threshold industrial enterprises rather than the full population of furniture manufacturers.
Because the source perimeter differs from many country-level production market-size indicators, the series is best used to track China's trend over time. Cross-country comparisons should be made with care and with the source coverage difference in mind.
Source coverage and classification
The source reflects operating revenue for manufacture of furniture as reported by China's official industrial statistics. The underlying perimeter covers enterprises above the relevant reporting threshold, commonly described as firms with annual revenue of at least 20 million Chinese yuan.
This differs from full-sector measures that include all registered producers or all establishments. The indicator therefore represents an official high-coverage industrial production turnover series, but not a complete census of every furniture producer in China.
Annual aggregation
Furnilytics converts the monthly source series into an annual indicator. When the source is accumulated through the year, annual values are derived from the full-year accumulated value or from the appropriate yearly endpoint. The published indicator presents the result as annual furniture production turnover.
Preliminary-year treatment
If the latest year is incomplete, Furnilytics may estimate the full-year value from year-to-date source growth. Such values are marked as preliminary in the indicator data and should be expected to change when a complete source release becomes available.
Currency conversion
The default view is in Chinese yuan. Furnilytics also provides an optional euro view using annual average CNY/EUR exchange rates from the European Central Bank. Currency conversion supports international reading, but it can introduce exchange-rate movements that differ from the local-currency trend.
Nominal and real values
The source turnover series is primarily a nominal value series. Where real values are included, Furnilytics uses the relevant Chinese furniture producer price information to adjust for price effects. Nominal values and real values should not be interpreted as the same measure.
Interpretation limits
The indicator should not be read as a full audited estimate of all furniture production in China. It is an official-source market-size proxy with a defined reporting perimeter. It is most useful for assessing the direction and scale of China's furniture manufacturing turnover over time.
